Swimmers take strokes towards improvement
The Staples-Motley swim team lost 44-111 to Sauk Centre in their first meet of the season held Sept. 30.
“Overall, the team did fantastic,” said Coach Amanda Olson. “We had a majority of the team drop considerable time from our practice team trials last week, and we had a handful of girls swim personal bests, if not close to personal bests.”
Olson said the team is making strides in their technique and is now focusing on improving on the foundation.
“I’m extremely proud of what they accomplished, and more importantly they were proud of themselves,” said Olson. “Based on what I saw tonight, I would expect to see some great things for this team in the future, especially some of our new girls.”
Some of the top varsity placers included:
Emily Veronen, 3rd; 200 individual medley and 2nd; 100 backstroke with a near personal best of 1:10.57.
Lili Schneider, 3rd; 200 freestyle and 1st; 100 breaststroke with a personal best of 1:19.48.
