Shirley Baumgartner

Shirley Lee  (Hertel) Baumgartner passed away peacefully January 16, 2025 on the family farm in Motley. 

A gathering will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, January, 24, 2025, at the Taylor Funeral Home in Staples.

Shirley was born September 26, 1952 to Emil and Mardelle (Paulson) Hertel, in Brainerd. She grew up with her two brothers in Brainerd and graduated from Brainerd High School in 1970.

On June 16, 1972, she wed Lawrence “Larry” Baumgartner, Jr. The couple had two children together, Aaron and Serenity. They worked for a few years in the Twin Cities, before eventually taking over the family dairy farm in Byron Township in Cass County.

She looked forward to watching the Minnesota Vikings, chatting with her brothers, playing games on her phone, working on crafts and baking with the grandkids on the holiday. After Larry passed away her best friend became a pug  named Angel.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Serenity (Wayne) Keppers; one daughter-in-law, Jennifer Baumgartner; four grandchildren, Breanna, Dalton, Hannah and Tucker; two brothers, Terry (Brenda Lowe) Hertel and Jeffrey (Wendy) Hertel.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry Baumgartner; one son, Aaron Baumgartner; half siblings, James and Henry Hertel and Pati Dauber and Joan Nubbe.
