WADENA COUNTY BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
PUBLIC NOTICE
APPEAL FOR A VARIANCE
Notice is hereby given that on Thursday, the 21st day of July, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., in the Multi-purpose room of the Wadena County Courthouse, located at: 415 Jefferson Street S, Wadena, MN, the Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing on the application of Douglas and Margaret Giles, 24317 Durant St. NE, Bethel, MN, for a variance on property located at: 26732 198th St., Staples, MN, on the following described property: Pt. Gov Lot 9 Com SW Cor of 9; Th N in W LI 1207’; Th E Para/S LI 1000’; Th N 180’ M or L to C W River; Th Wtly Alg C W River 100’ M or L to Pt due N of Pt of Beg; Th S 190’ M or L to Pt of Beg., Section 14, Bullard Township, T-135-N, R-33-W, located in an A-2 Mixed Agriculture-Forestry District with a S-1 Shoreland Overlay District.
Application, if approved, would allow the continuation of an after-the-fact deck and addition to a pre-existing cabin that does not meet the 150’ setback from the Ordinary High Water Level of a Forested River, and is situated in a floodway.
All persons interested are invited to attend said hearing and be heard on this matter. An agenda for the meeting and associated materials can be found on the County website calendar at www.co.wadena.mn.us. Written correspondence must be received by the Wadena County Zoning Office, 415 Jefferson St. S., Room 234, Wadena, MN 56482 before close of business the day of the hearing in order to be accepted and must include the full name and address of the person sending the correspondence in order to be accepted for presentation to the Adjustment Board at the public hearing. The correspondence may be submitted in person, by U.S. Mail, or by e-mail to the Zoning Office but it MUST include the required information.

AERIAL SPRAYING NOTICE
Notice of Aerial spraying to take place at:
Staples WMA, Rice Lake (Basin# 77014600) in Todd County (T133-R33-S36).
Herbicide labeled for aquatic use will be used to control hybrid cattail.
The purpose of this treatment is to improve waterfowl habitat.
Aerial spraying to occur July 25 - August 26, 2022.
All affected public access points will be posted at time of treatment.

NOTICE OF CANDIDATE FILING DATES
The following township offices will be voted for at the state general election to be held Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Candidates may begin filing for these offices on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 until Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Call the Clerk, Bianca Wyffels, at 218-820-6430 for an appointment. Or, the office of the clerk will be open from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on August 16, 2022 for candidates to file: May Township Hall Building, 5834 112th Street SW, Pillager, Mn.

MINUTES
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order with Freeman, B. Anderson, Lund, Winkels and Reeck present (comprising a quorum). Lisa Anderson was absent. Also attending: Supt. Tappe, Finance Director Regan, Principals Johnson and Ferdon, Jodie Zesbaugh representing Ehlers, Jordan Pangrac representing ICS, several community members and staff, Staples World Managing Editor Anderson and Recording Secretary Walz. The pledge of allegiance was recited.
Motion by Freeman, seconded by Lund, to add agenda item #12K and separately consider #6. MC
Motion by Reeck, seconded by Lund to adopt the agenda. MC
Recognize the public - Chair Winkels recognized the public and thanked everyone for attending.
School/Community Forum
a. Val Turner - REACH program presentation to sharing program’s impact influencing students in academics and beyond.
b. Josh Lee shared the “Why We Play” MSHSL Video and highlighted the role activities play in human formation of students.

Motion by Reeck, seconded by B. Anderson to approve the Resolution to accept In-Kind Donations in the amount of $99 and Grants in the amount of $2,400. MC. Thank you to Staples Fire Department, Central Building Supply, Giza Plumbing & Heating, American Legion Post #0255, Staples Lion’s Club, Nyhus Chevrolet and Clark Station Bakery for their donations.

Facilities Update
23. ICS Facility Update presented by Pangrac from ICS.
Motion by Lund, seconded by Reeck, to approve the resolution stating the intention of the school board to issue general obligation facilities maintenance and capital facilities bonds. Following a Roll Call vote, board members Freeman, B. Anderson, Reeck, Lund and Winkels voted in favor. L. Anderson was absent. MC
Reports
26. Principals Johnson and Ferdon gave an update on end of the year events in both schools. Ferdon highlighted the final concert of the year at the M/HS on Friday, May 20.
27. Superintendent Tappe gave an update on the legislative session, reviewed some of the budget neutral position shifts happening, shared the hire of Debbie Ferdon as M/HS Principal for 22/23 school year, thanked the hiring committee for their time, shared about the frontline worker pay that Gov. Walz signed in April, and led a standing ovation to thank Bonnie Madson for her 30 years of service.
28. Community Ed Coordinator Loren Walz gave a brief update on Summer Rec programs and CEAC meetings.
29. SMEA President Schneider shared about the student enthusiasm that comes with the last week of school.
30. Activities Director Josh Lee shared that 298 individual students in grades 7 - 12 participated in at least one activity this year.
