Pokémon Go in Staples
(#43 Things to Do in Staples, “Find things in your community and put them on social media and cell phone apps.”)
Complete with her Pokeball backpack, Madalyn Youngbauer of Staples confirms that Staples has been invaded by Pokémon (pocket monsters), in the form of the online game Pokémon Go. The location-based mobile game requires players to travel on foot or bike to public places to collect Pokémon or other items. Youngbauer said she has gone out every morning since the Pokemon Go game came out July 10. She said Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples is one of the “gyms” which pokémon can battle against each other. “I just beat up a blue one at the water tower and put my yellow one there,” she said. Several churches in Staples are also gyms, as well as the Staples Post Office, the cemetery and the plaque in front of the Staples Community Center where you can earn game items.
