Community Pride includes cleaning, painting, celebrating

Staples Economic Development Authority

Spring Cleanup - Staples Community Pride Initiative was initiated to show the pride that we have in our great community.

Community pride was identified as a focus area through the Thriving Communities Initiative (TCI) planning process, which engaged over 100 community members who shared their ideas on how to make Staples an even better community.

The Spring Cleanup program includes a variety of volunteer and learning opportunities where you receive a raffle ticket every time you attend one of the events. A door prize to be given at the celebration community barbecue at Pine Grove Park on Thursday, June 2 from 4-7 p.m.

A new program this year is the Paint the Town Initiative, intended to help low income, elderly and/or disabled families with fixing up of the exterior of their homes. We are accepting applications until May 13 from homeowners who are interested in participating. You can find them online at the City of Staples website or they are spread around the community at local businesses and at City Hall.

We are currently forming paint teams and collecting sponsorships to pay for the paint and materials. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer either as an individual or as a team and if you would like to help sponsor the program.

I want to say thank you to all that attended the first couple of events. We had a fantanstic turnout with over 30 people showing up tohelp out at the park cleanup day on April 5. Over 20 volunteers planted 30 trees around the community at the Arbor Day Celebration held on April 29.
