William Smith

William (Bill) Charles Smith, 82, of Staples, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 19, 2025.

Services will be held Friday, Sept. 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Thomastown Covenant Church, Staples. 

Bill was born January 5, 1943, to Bert and Christine Smith in Wadena. He was raised on the family farm near Oylen - a place he loved his entire life. Bill graduated from Staples High School in 1962 and earned a welding certificate from ACTI. In 1970, he married Sandra Powell in Bill Falls. 

Bill worked at Homecrest in Wadena his entire career and lived on the original Smith homestead, where he and Sandy raised their family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working outdoors. Bill was an active member of the Leader Lions and never the opportunity to support his grandchildren at school events.

 He is survived by his wife, Sandra; two sons, Mike Smith of Frazee and Brian (Heidi) Smith of Staples; one daughter, Shelly (Gil) Miller of Staples; eight grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren and one sister, Betty Smith.

He was preceeded in death by his parents
