Wayne Greenwaldt

The funeral service celebrating the life of Wayne LeRoy Greenwaldt was held on Monday, August 17, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township with Pastor Stephen Melcher presiding.

Wayne LeRoy Greenwaldt of Alexandria went to heaven August 11, at the Staples Care Center at the age of 75. 

Wayne was born in Bertha, to Kenneth and Erma (Snakenberg) Greenwaldt on November 12, 1950. He graduated from Staples High School in 1971 and attended Staples Technical College for one year. 

Wayne enjoyed many different things but first and foremost was his love of fishing. He always enjoyed dropping a line in the water, and if he couldn’t fish, he’d talk about fishing. Wayne was musically inclined from a very young age, and he learned how to play guitar by ear from his dad. He was also a great singer, and over the years they enjoyed many little jam sessions together. In his younger days, Wayne enjoyed deer hunting, with his biggest thrill being the year he shot a 6-point buck on the home farm. Wayne loved people and he made friends easily wherever he went. While living in Alexandria he enjoyed bowling with friends, sharing a meal with friends at the Pizza Ranch and scoping out bargains at the local flea market. Playing pinochle with his mom and sisters on the weekends he came home to visit was a highlight for him, as was watching college football and basketball on television and cheering loudly for his favorite teams.  Wayne led a very fulfilling life and made lasting friendships with many individuals over the years. These friends, along with his family, will dearly miss him.

Wayne endured a multitude of health issues over the years, but despite this, he never lost sight of the fact that he was a child of God and that he would one day walk beside his Lord and Savior in heaven.

He is survived by his mother, Erma Greenwaldt of Staples; siblings Jan (Tony) Jares, Sid (Vicki) Greenwaldt and Nancy (Gary) Weber all of Aldrich, and Bonnie (Joel) Kassen of Goodhue; 12 nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Greenwaldt and great nephew, Elliot Kenneth Jares.

Honorary pallbearers were Jason Jares and Ryan Kassen.

Serving as pallbearers were Derek Greenwaldt, Travis Jares, Chirs Weber, Jesse Greenwaldt, Nick Jares and Justin Kassen.
