Ryan William Paavola, 32, passed away September 23, 2018 at Ecumen Transitions in Detroit Lakes with family by his side.
Services were held Sept. 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New York Mills with Pastor Kirk Douglas.
Burial was at Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills.
Arrangements were by Karvonen Funeral Home.
Ryan was born August 20, 1986 in Wadena to Larry and Beverley (Hybl) Paavola. He was baptized on Sept. 28, 1986 and confirmed on May 20, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills.
In 2001 Ryan was accepted to the Student Ambassador Program and represented the United States traveling throughout Europe. He graduated from New York Mills High School in 2005. He continued his education at St. Cloud University where he majored in Political Science and minored in Community Development and Public Administration. He attended the Lead America Program in Washington DC in 2009. He was employed with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs in Minneapolis, specializing in benefits and pensions.
He enjoyed traveling overseas, the eastern states, camping and hiking and vacationing in Florida. His interests included the arts, theatre, reading a book in the park and family and friends.
Ryan fought a valiant fight with liver failure and recently made his home in Frazee with his mother and step-father.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Beverley and step-father, Greg Mickelson of Frazee; grandparents, Eldon and Mary Hybl of Staples and Rosella Mickelson of Frazee; numerous “nieces and nephews”, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and a host of friends.
Preceding Ryan in death was his father, Larry Paavola; grandparents Wilho and Rosalie Paavola and Lloyd Mickelson.
