Roger Peterson
Roger Lee Peterson, Sr. of Motley, went to be with our Lord in the early morning of October 1, 2022.
A memorial service will be held at the Staples Church of Christ on October 15 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services with lunch following.
Roger was born to Kline and Luella (Freitag) Peterson on December 15, 1937. Roger grew up in Staples, attending Staples High School. Roger served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1961-1968. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Montana, City of Staples Water & Light and Ind. School District 793, Staokes, as a bus driver and mechanic in the bus garage until his retirement in 1986 due to health reasons. In November of 1987 he suffered a cervical fracture after falling from his deer stand, leaving him partially paralyzed. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
Roger and Martha (Marty Mooers) were married on July 21, 1962, at the Church of Christ in Wadena. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2022. He and Marty enjoyed fishing for many summers at Loe’s Resort on Leech Lake where they had a trailer home.
Roger is survived by his wife, Marty; three sons, Roger, Jr., Dan (Deb) and Doug. They have been blessed with seven grandchildren, Lacey (Josh) Spolarich, Brittney, Tyler, Kalli, Chloe, Taelor and Alix; three great-grandchildren, Addisyn, Easton and Hayden Spolarich; one brother Duane (Rose) Peterson and one sister, Pat (Rog) Reko.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy and Gerald and one sister, Becky.
