Richard Sampson
Richard A. Sampson, 86, formerly of Motley, passed away peacefully October 27, 2025, in Brainerd.
A Memorial Service was held October 31, at 11:00 a.m. at the Motley Free Methodist Church in Motley.
Interment was at Motley Public Cemetery.
Richard was born January 5, 1939, to Peter and Christine Sampson in Ayr, North Dakota. He married the love of his life, Pearl H.C. Hoeck, on August 16, 1958, in Motley, where they made their home and raised their family.
Richard worked for the El-Ray in Motley for 41 years and later drove truck for Holiday for 15 years. After retiring at age 75, he continued to stay active as caretaker at Clearwater Estates, where he enjoyed helping others and keeping things running smoothly.
He and Pearl were longtime members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Motley. Richard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart and deep love for his family.
He is survived by three children, Sherri Lee (James) Johnson of Motley, Steven Peter Sampson (Jeff Raposa) of Denver, CO and Jill Marie (David) Moen of Ottertail; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ila (Al) Moga of Independence, WI; one brother in-law, EV Evanson of Shoreview, along with many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pearl; one son, Timothy Richard Sampson; parents; three sisters, June McElroy, Rose Anderson and Alta Evanson and one brother, Gordon (Yvonne) Sampson of Motley.
He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, faith and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Arrangements were by the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
