Richard Rollins
Richard “Rich” Timothy Rollins, 72, of Granite Falls passed away August 11, 2023, at Avera Granite Falls Hospital.
Funeral services were held August 19 at United Church of Christ in Granite Falls.
Rich was born August 27, 1950 to Richard and Lillian (Swecker) Rollins in Staples. He grew up in Motley and graduated from Motley High School in 1968 and Alexandria Technical College with a degree in law enforcement. He married Susan Dreier on April 29, 1978.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Forestal receiving his honorable discharged in 1972. Rich worked in law enforcement for 35 years (1972-2006). He proudly served one year as Chief of Police of Granite Falls and the last 34 years as Sheriff of Yellow Medicine County..
He was a member of the American Legion and United Church of Christ in Granite Falls. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening and watching Twins baseball.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Annie (Brian) Bornhorst of Rochester and Emily (Tim) Lyon of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren, Logan and Kate Bornhorst and Vera and Rose Lyon; five sisters, Patricia Stokley, Nadine Bittner, Yvonne Jay, Joyce Rollins and Bessie (Mike) Mueller and one brother, Jim (Virginia) Rollins; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
