Mark Plattner
Mark Lyn Plattner, 65, passed away unexpectedly February 4, 2023.
Services were held February 11 at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Staples.
Mark was born April 24, 1957 to Junior and Darline Plattner in Rochester. He graduated from Staples High School in 1975 and received a degree from the Staples Area Technical Institute (AVTI) in Automotive Technician and Machining. He met Phyllis Etzler at the Friendly Inn during a game of foosball and they were married June 5, 1976, in Lincoln. They lived in Staples where they raised four children: Scott Etzler, Lance Plattner, Michelle Boyer and Ryan Plattner.
Mark worked various jobs over the years including Conklin’s Chrysler in Winthrop and Hermann’s Mobil while completing car alignments at Montgomery Wards at night as a second shift job. He and Phyllis moved to Leader in 1981 where he was self-employed doing diesel repair, mechanic/machining work and welding. In 1998 he worked at Polar Tank and Trailer for two years, then driving semi-truck hauling grain and over-the-road trucking.
Mark was a lover of many things; especially getting a “rise” out of Ma. He had a passion for woodworking, sawmill work, canning, snowmobiling, barbequing, playing pool, reading Louis Lamour books, gardening, sewing and most of all, spending time with his loved ones and being the leaning post for his family. Mark will be remembered for his incredible strength and being the most calm person anyone knew.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Scott Etzler and Ryan (Sammie) Plattner; one daughter, Michelle (Adam) Boyer; seven grandchildren, Garret Plattner, Tristin Etzler, Ashley Boyer, Tyler Plattner, Blaine Plattner, Zander Plattner, Easton Boyer; his parents; one brother, Gilmore (Lachelle) Plattner; four sisters, Brenda (Maroon) Kattoura, Lisa (John) Lallo, Ericka (Mike) Miller and Shanda (Steve) Glantz.
He is preceded in death by one son, Lance Plattner and grandparents, Wilmer Plattner, Esther Plattner and Bernice Plattner.
Arrangements are by the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
