Marcella Gaugert
The funeral service celebrating the life of Marcella “Marcy” Gaugert of rural Staples, was held May 23, 2023 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bartlett Township (rural Bertha) with Pastor Robin Fish and Pastor Jerry Goetz presiding.
Marcy, age 100 years and six months, passed away May 11, 2023, in Las Vegas, NV, under the loving care of her daughter, Diana Lin Guelker.
Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Bartlett Township, Verndale.
Marcy Reichel was born to Joseph and Mildred (Bean) Reichel on November 17, 1922, on the family homestead near Staples, Todd County, Minn. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church on May 20, 1945. Marcy married Robert “Bob” Gaugert, Jr., at that church on June 28, 1945. It was in this community that she lived her faith in Jesus, our Savior.
Marcy’s greatest joys were teaching K-12 and Special Ed students. She graduated magna cum laude from Bemidji State College in 1973.
She was an avid reader, gardener, coach and teacher. Marcy joined Fawn Creek Garden Club, studied and became a certified MN Horticulture judge for garden club shows, county fairs and the Minnesota State Fair. Her motto was “Grow to Show”. When not judging, she entered specimens and arrangements both locally, domestically and internationally winning many top ribbons. She also trained future flower show judges. “Marcy’s Meandering” was created to communicate growing, showing and arranging techniques to gardeners and to educate Model Office Program students on using office procedures for their future careers. Marcy received the MN Horticulture Lifetime Achievement Award. She retired from teaching at the age of 85.
Surviving Marcy are five loving children: Barbara Ann Brelje, Sharon (Mark) Jean Yoder, Alan (BJ) Robert Gaugert, Diana Lin Guelker and Larry Roger Gaugert; along with grandchildren: Susan (Darrell) Vlynn Zerwas, Nichole Lin Benson, Christopher (Cindie) Thomas Brelje, Melissa Anna Gaugert, Roberta (Ryan) Joan Parker, Elizabeth Christine Gaugert, Adelaide Danielle Yoder, Mackenzie Leigh Yoder, Nicholas Robert Gaugert; great-grandchildren, Emilia Hope Seery, Sierra Faith Seery, Evangeline Icolene Benson, Zaccheus Priest Benson, Josiah Robert Parker, Daniel Alan Parker, Nathan Ryan Parker and Theodore Roger Gaugert.
Preceding Marcy in death were her husband of 70 years, Robert (2015); parents, Joseph and Mildred and brothers, Joe and Roger Reichel.
Serving as casket bearers were Jon Rohloff, Bill Nokes, Terry Guelker, Gene Robben, Jim Reichel and Phil Jasmer.
