Jeffrey Hess

Jeffrey James Hess, 67, of Motley passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 20, 2025. 

Services will be held at his farm on October 4, 2025 at 11 a.m.

Jeff attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Staples High School in 1976 and went on to attend Natural Resources School in Bemidji and then trade school for painting. Over the following decades he operated Hess Decorating and helped beautify the inside and outside of our community’s homes.

Jeffrey was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and grouse hunting every chance he could. He had a gift for completing jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed a good History Channel documentary. During his lifetime he instilled these loves into his children, Hannah and Joe. He had a quick sense of humor and an infectious smile. His greatest love apart from family was his 40 acre farm, where he spent more than 30 years of his life.

Jeffrey is survived by his mother, Nancy Resch (Schultenover); one brother, Todd; two sisters, Peggy (David) and Kim (Keith); one daughter, Hannah (Jacob); one son, Joseph (Andrea);  bonus children, Alyssa and Scott (Shannon) and dog, Emmet. 

Jeff has gone home for a reunion with his father, James; late wife, Mary and all other people he loved who’ve gone before him.  

In memory of Jeff, go outside for a walk today.; call a family member you haven’t talked to for a while or don’t work on the car you’ve been meaning to fix. Take time to do something for yourself or someone else.
