Jay Gilbertson

Jay Gilbertson, 73 of Minnetonka, passed away January 27, 2023, after a brief battle with lung cancer. 

A celebration of life will follow at a later date for family and friends. 

Jay was born in Milaca to Donald and Brunelle Gilbertson. He grew up in Staples and graduated from Staples High School in 1968. He studied tool and die making at Staples Technical College. Jay served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

Jay was very talented and versatile, which enabled him to pursue various careers. He spent many years working in sales and management for Batcher’s Department Store in Staples. Most recently he worked as a plate maker at American National Can printing company. He enjoyed photography, art, fishing, hunting, cooking and loved spending time with family and friends. Jay was an outgoing conversationalist, had a great sense of humor and always found opportunities to help others. He will be deeply missed by family and loved ones.

Jay is survived by his loving partner of 32 years, Jeanne Samuelson; two sisters, Janice Gilbertson and Joan Gilbertson of Loveland, Colorado; one aunt; 17 cousins and too many friends to count.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judith Gilbertson.
