Iras Chapin

Iras Chapin, 102, of Staples, formerly of Motley, passed away peacefully September 25, 2022. 

Services were held September 29 at the United Methodist Church in Motley. 

Interment was at the Poplar Cemetery.

Iras was born April 8, 1920, to Walter and Laura (Williams) Payne in Motley. She married Bernard Chapin on September 18, 1941. Iras was active in her community. She was Morrison County senior citizen of the year in 1999 and received the Jefferson Award in 1999. She volunteered with the Motley Food Shelf and was a big part of the United Methodist Church. 

Iras enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, puzzles, reading, cooking and baking. Above all, she loved being a mother and especially loved being a grandma. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Iras is survived by one daughter, Shari Christiansen, one son, Harley (Shari) Chapin; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Ronald; one daughter, Sandra; son-in-law, Arden Christiansen; one grandson, Clayton Christiansen; one great-great-grandson, Blair Hafften and two brothers, Duane Payne and Ivan Payne.

Arrangements were by Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
