Hazel Brown
Hazel Brown, 100, of New York Mills, formerly of Spruce Groove Township, Menahga, died March 24, 2017, at the Elders’ Home in New York Mills.
Funeral services were held March 29, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Perham with Pastor Jared Nies officiating.
Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in New York Mills.
Arrangements were with the Karvonen Funeral Home of New York Mills.
Hazel Lurana Fuller was born, March 10, 1917 to Chester and Ethel (Ball) Fuller in Lone Rock, Iowa. In 1918, the family moved to Bemidji and then to Roosevelt. Hazel attended Warroad Country School, Swift Country School and Rock Well City High School. On December 16, 1937 she married Ernest Brown in New York Mills. They made their home in Spruce Grove Township where they farmed. Hazel was a member of; Jolly Seventeener’s, Tops, Home Makers social club, WWI Ladies Auxiliary #2127, Perham and St. John’s Lutheran Church since 1953. She enjoyed raising chickens, making quilts, sewing, gardening and traveling.
Hazel is survived by two daughters, Doris (Gerald) Beach of Sebeka and Ruth Miller of Wadena; three sons, Robert (Linda) Brown of Deer Creek, Ernest Brown, Jr. of Staples and Lyle (Mary) Brown of Menahga; 20 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 23 great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Norstebon of Roseau and Lois Holcomb of Aurora and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Fred Miller; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Ida, Pearl, Beryl, Evelyn, Esther and Cleo and five brothers: Clarence, Alton, Bill, Ralph and Donald.
