Gloria Freeman

Gloria Freeman, 85, passed away March 9, 2022 at a hospital in the Twin Cities.

A special service will be held in the spring.

Gloria Faye Chapin was born August 28, 1936 to Milton and Josephine (Winter) Chapin. She grew up in Staples and graduated with the Class of 1954. She moved to the Twin Cities where she met her one true love while working at the Minneapolis Star Tribune. She married Gale Freeman on January 6, 1968. They were together for 24 years. They lived in the Kenwood neighborhood of Minneapolis and Lake Washburn areas with many friends and neighbors. She was supreme in needlepoint, playing the piano later in life, organizing weddings and an annual Christmas sing-along which everyone enjoyed. Gloria never married again as she said “Gale’s shoes were too big to fill.” She moved to Lake Ada where her younger brother, Larry Chapin built a home where she lived during summers.

She is survived by one step-son, William (Rita) Freeman; one step-daughter, Carla Behnke; three grandchildren; three great-grandsons; two sisters, Eloise (Marv) Ryan and Carol Heldman of Staples; special sister-in-law, Sherry (Larry) Chapin and their children Tony Chapin and Michelle Chapin and many other nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Burl, Dale, Henry and Larry Chapin; two sisters, Dolores Johnson and Phyllis Peterson and one step-son, Daniel Freeman.

In remembrance of her life, charitable donations may be made either to the Alzheimer’s Association at Alz.org or the Parkinson’s Foundation at Parkinson.org.
