Geraldine Ricker
Geraldine (Jeri) E. Ricker, 98, of Browerville, passed away July 25, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Services were held August 1 at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Staples.
Interment was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
Geraldine (Jeri) Hanson was born January 2, 1929 in Pingree, North Dakota. She attended elementary school in Nevis. Later the family moved to Arago Township where she attended the Arago School, north of Park Rapids. Jeri worked at Wimpy’s Café in Park Rapids and at the Itasca Headwater Store. She also worked in Bemidji, cleaning rooms at a motel on Lake Bemidji.
Geri married Leon Ricker on September 2, 1947, at Park Rapids. They farmed in Hubbard County, north of Park Rapids before moving to Minneapolis in 1956 and later moving to rural Browerville area in 1964, back to farming. They moved to Fairmont in 1980 and ran the Highland Court Motel until 1986 then returned to the Browerville farm. Jeri and Leon retired from farming in 1992 and built a new home on an adjoining property. Jeri enjoyed baking, gardening, jeopardy, crossword puzzles, dancing and listening to old-time country music. She was a member of the local card club for many years, a member of the modern Duets Homemakers Club and a reporter for Staples World and Long Prairie Leader for the Fawn Lake news. Jeri also served as an election judge for Fawn Lake Township. Above all she was a true Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
Jeri will be missed by three children, Malcolm of Browerville, Julianne (Gary) of Nevis and Douglas (Heidi) of Browerville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and one brother, Nathan Hanson.
Jeri was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; parents; three sisters, four brothers and two grandchildren.
Arrangements were with the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
