Frances Mertens

Frances Marie Mertens, 87, of Staples passed away September 10, 2022.

Services will be held Saturday, September 24 at Sacred Heart Church in Staples. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m.

Frances (Fran) was born to Ralph and Eileen Raines on October 19, 1934 in Brainerd. She married Fred Mertens on August 6, 1956 in Brainerd and moved to Staples where they made their home.

Fran worked at Lakewood Health Systems as head of housekeeping until she retired. She volunteered at the Staples Food Shelf for 20 yearsand she volunteered at Sacred Heart Church. Fran enjoyed many activities and was a member of the Red Hats Club. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and especially spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan, of Bemidji; two sons, Mike (Pam) and Paull, both of Wadena; one sister, Carol, of Alaska; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fritz; one daughter Barb; one brother, Jerry; one sister, Eileen and one great-grandson, Gage.
