Floyd Griffith
Floyd W. Griffith, beloved father and friend, passed away July 16, 2024, just one day after celebrating his 83rd birthday.
A Celebration of Life will be held August 10 at 3 p.m. at the Motley Free Methodist Church in Motley. After the service, a small meal will be served followed by a service at the Motley Cemetery.
Floyd was born July 15, 1941, to Floyd and Hazel (Tidrick) Griffith in Brainerd. Floyd lived a life rich with experiences and cherished moments.
His early years were spent in Motley, where he graduated from Motley High School in 1959. In 1960 he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army as a Military Policeman, with a notable deployment in Korea. Upon his return, Floyd embarked on a dedicated career with Burlington Northern Railroad, where he worked as a Patrolman for nearly 30 years. After leaving the railroad, Floyd continued to stay active, working for Morey’s Fish Company and later as a bus driver for the Motley School District.
A man of the outdoors, Floyd found joy in fishing, trapping, gardening and especially in searching for agates in gravel pits, on dirt roads and in fields across Minnesota. He traveled to almost every state in this country looking for precious stones. His passion for the outdoors and knowledge of it, was always being passed on whenever he saw the opportunity. When he wasn’t outside, Floyd would never pass up the opportunity to enjoy simple pleasures with others like playing cards, having good coffee with great friends or sharing his homemade wine.
Throughout Floyd’s life, his marriage graced him with a legacy as a father of two children, a stepfather to five, a grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was also a cherished brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity.
Floyd is preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Frederick Rosier; one sister, Karen (Griffith) Williams and one nephew, Timothy Williams.
Floyd is survived by a large family and an even larger group of friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. A finer man we have not seen and a stronger spirit never felt; he will be dearly missed.
