Donna Johnson
Donna Joan Johnson, 91, passed away peacefully, September 8, 2025 in the home of her niece, Susan Ritterholz, near St Cloud, under the care of her family.
A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
Donna was born January 21, 1934 to Harry and Mary Sussenguth in Breckenridge, one of nine children. The family grew up in a small house with a large garden in Breckenridge, where they felt the love and support of a large family. As a young woman, Donna was the primary caretaker for their mother until the end of her life.
She married Douglas (Doug) Johnson on September 6, 1975 making their home on Lake Shamineau and later settling in Staples.
Donna was a professional photo colorist for Melby’s Studio in Breckenridge and later delighted the many who corresponded with her with colorful back-of-the-envelope drawings. She enjoyed watching football (go Vikings!) but golf was her favorite sport and she loved playing.
She had a dry wit, a sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of right-and-wrong. She stayed closely tuned to national politics with a keen eye and critique for those whose values and ethics she disapproved of and who turned a blind eye toward the less fortunate.
She is survived by one brother, Neil (Val) Sussenguth and one sister, Sally DeSantos. While Donna and Doug did not have children, they cherished their relationships with their siblings and their many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Doug; six siblings Winifred (Strand), Margery (Offerdahl), Doris (Armstrong), Mary (Turnquist), Harry and Hank.
Her family wishes to thank the home-health nurses and staff of CentraCare Hospice Care for their assistance at the end of Donna’s life.
In lieu of flowers, consider donating to your local humane society or animal rescue in Donna’s memory.
