Dale Niemi

Dale Arnold Niemi, 79, of Menahga, passed away July 6, 2023, at his home. 

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills.

Dale was born August 7, 1943, to Leo and Lydia (Kukas) Niemi in Fergus Falls.

Dale attended Staples High School, graduating with the class of 1961. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He honorably served his country from August 18, 1961, to June 11, 1963. During his time in the army he received meteorological training, earned a diploma from the U.S. Army Signal School and played basketball on an army team.

Dale earned a two-year vocational degree in machine shop at Staples Vo-Tech. He worked for years as a tool and die maker. He also spent time as a seaman on the Great Lakes.

On August 3, 1991, Dale married Linda Blakely at  Itaska State Park and they made their home at rural Menahga. Dale and Linda loved to hunt, fish, garden, go to pow wows and travel in the southwestern states. They shared their lives until Linda passed in February of 2016. Dale, along with his dog Nikki, continued his favorite activities including following Minnesota sports teams.

Dale is survived by two brothers, Gary Niemi and Donald (Elizabeth) Niemi; one sister, Sandra (Fred) Connell; one nephew, John (Angela) Niemi was a steady source of support along with many other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Preceding Dale in death were his wife; parents; one brother, Michael Niemi and one sister, Judith Reichel.
