Catherine Radermacher

The Mass of Christian burial for Catherine Radermacher of Wadena, was celebrated September 10, 2022, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena.

With family at her side, Catherine, age 99, passed away September 5 at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples, with tender care by the staff of Lakewood Health.

Catherine was born to George and Anna (Mahowald) Nistler on May 8, 1923, in Shooks. She attended Shooks’ one room schoolhouse and then boarded at St. Francis High School in Little Falls. Upon graduation, she lived with an aunt and uncle in Minneapolis, working for an insurance company. She then moved home and helped her father in his grocery store/post office/gas station. Catherine later became a bookkeeper for the creamery in Deer River, where she met the love of her life, Myron “Tony” Radermacher.

Catherine and Tony were married on June 19, 1945, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Blackduck. They farmed with Tony’s parents in Deer River, raising dairy cattle and chickens, taking eggs to Duluth to sell. By April 1, 1953, their family was blessed with five children, and they moved to a farm south of Wadena where their family continued to grow having added six more. As a dedicated farm wife, mother and homemaker, her days were filled with caring for her family, gardening, cooking and baking. She was an excellent cook and could make a meal for family and guests within a short time and everyone was welcome. Her specialties were baked chicken, pie and bread. Catherine and Tony found time to play cards and fish together. Her family was her greatest joy and she cherished time with them. Her grandchildren will remember her as the greatest storybook reader.

A longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena, Catherine served as a Eucharistic minister, and was a member of the choir, Christian Mothers and the Foresters. She and Tony were core members in starting the Wadena Whirlaway Square Dance Club, enjoying many dances and making new friends.

By 2010, they moved to Fair Oaks Lodge where Tony passed away February 2011. In 2018, Catherine moved to the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. The staff loved her sense of humor and gentle disposition and were very loving and caring towards her.

Memories of Catherine will be treasured by her 10 children, Joseph (Jean) of Staples, Dorothy Priebe of Brainerd, Anne Converse of Staples, Mary Lou (Tom) of Verndale, Michael (Patti) of Cohasset, Rita (Mike) Kirchner of Slayton, Gerald (JoAnn) of Grand Rapids, Thomas (Mary Lee) of Cohasset, Susan Gibbons and Patrick (Missy) of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Janelle of Wadena; 39 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
