Wrestlers preparing for postseason
Eric Lisson recorded his 125th varsity wrestling win at the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley meet. Lisson earned two pins and a 10-2 victory in the final match at 132 pounds, for his third straight win at this tournament.
Staples-Motley had two other champions at the invite, Spencer Miller at 113 pounds and Alex Erpelding at 170. Miller won 8-5 in his final match and Erpelding had two pins in his two matches.
Jasiah Paskewitz was back on the mat for his first varsity action of the season, finishing fourth at 138 pounds. Isaac Swensrud wrestled well, recording two pins in his fourth place finish.
The Cardinals have one home meet before the section meet. They will host United North Central, Thursday, Feb. 9. They should get a home match for the postseason, as Coach Dave Anglin expects them to be the second seed in Section 6A. The first playoff round will be Tuesday, Feb. 14, with the finals Friday, Feb. 17, at Breckenridge.
The individual tournament will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at Wheaton.
“The kids are working hard,” said Anglin. “They’ve set their goals high and are working to achieve them. They have to believe in themselves and they can get it done.”
Staples-Motley has been shorthanded for the past few weeks with injuries and illness keeping some kids out, but they should be close to full strength for the postseason.
