Emily Tholl

Emily “Emy” Ann Tholl, 66, passed away peacefully April 18, 2021, at her home near Leader. 

Emy requested no funeral service. Join us for a Celebration of Life at Ten-Hi Bar in Motley on Sat,. May 22 from 2 to 6 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served. Bring any pictures or good stories of Emy that you would like to share. 

Emy was born June 18, 1954 to Woodrow “Woody” and Shirley “Margie” Shake in Staples. She grew up on a farm near Leader and graduated from Staples High School in 1972. Emy was married to Steve Tholl of Motley from 1973 - 2012. They owned Steve’s Club bar and restaurant in Pillager for 30 years. They lived on the Long Prairie River in Motley. Emy went to vocational school for accounting, was on the Lakewood Health System Hospital Board and was a longtime member of the Swan Valley Lutheran Church, Leader. She loved reading and always had her nose buried in a good book. She said it was her way of traveling anywhere in the world. She enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers, swimming, horseback riding, sightseeing and traveling to warm places. She loved her family, friends, especially helping others and was a caretaker at heart and always stepped up to take care of those around her. Emy had a smile that could light up a room, a heart of gold and truly touched many lives. Emy was thoughtful, sweet, caring, selfless and held her ground when she was passionate about something. Emy will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Emy is survived by two daughters, Chastity (Roger) Winslow of Big Lake and Taija (Jake) Peck of St. Cloud and one son, Ryan Tholl of Nisswa; six grandchildren, Zyanne, Devin, Wyatt, Mariyah, Maizie and Jack; four siblings, Betty (Steve) Lorber, Jo Pollock, Denise (Steve) Bickford and Larry Shake and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gary and Steve; one sister, Sherry Shake and one grandchild, Courtney Winslow.
