Staples PD report drugs found during recent traffic stop

On June 6, Staples Police stopped a vehicle on Hwy 10 for obstructed view and speeding. While at the vehicle, police could smell marijuana. After searching the vehicle, police found a small amount of cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana wax, marijuana, kief and drug paraphernalia. Police arrested Austin Broder, 23, of Botttineau, ND, and charged him with three felonies including; possession of cocaine, ecstasy and  marijuana wax. 

Also arrested during the traffic stop was Sean Brandt, 27, of Bottineau, he was charged with possession of ecstasy. A third passenger was released from the scene. Both parties were  transported to the Todd County Jail.

Other reports into the Staples Police Dept were;

June 6; a citizen reported finding a GPS unit in the alley on the 400 block of 8th St NE. Police located the owner and returned the GPS. Also discovered were other items stolen from the victims truck on the 300 block of 6th St. NE, including sunglasses, change and vehicle registration papers.

June 7; Staples Police received information of juveniles possibly sneaking out of their house and breaking into cars. Police are investigating. 

June 9; Staples Police received a report of a bear near Scott’s Southtown. Police were unable to locate the bear.

June 10; Staples Police conducted a welfare check of an individual who was reported to be lying on the ground at the Northern Pacific Park. Police made contact with the subject, who stated he was fine and needed no assistance.

June 10; Staples Police responded to the City of Motley to assist with a report of an intoxicated female attempting to pick a fight with her husband. Upon arrival, the female subject had left the scene.  Police stayed on scene until the Morrison County Sheriff’s Dept. arrived.

June 10; at 11:30 p.m., while doing bike patrol, Staples Police observed two large fireworks that had been fired from the area of the 900 block of 2nd Ave. NE. When police arrived several people were outside of their residences looking for the source of the loud noise. The person(s) who fired the fireworks were not located. Police advised everyone on scene that if it occured again to call law enforcement.

June 11; at 3:07 a.m., Staples Police responded to the 200 block of 6th St. NE to assist with removing a bat from a residence. Police removed the bat and cleared from the scene.

June 11; at 12:18 p.m., Staples Police received a complaint of loud music coming from a residence on the 200 block of Wisconsin Ave. SE. Upon arrival, police determined the music to be at an appropriate level.

June 11; Staples Police responded to the 200 block of 6th St. NE of a report of a suspicious person walking on a roof. Police were unable to locate anyone. 

June 12; Staples Police assisted Wadena PD and the MN State Patrol in searching for a green Chrysler New Yorker traveling east at a high rate of speed on Hwy 10 from the Wadena area. It was reported that a male was hitting a female inside the vehicle. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. 

June 12; Staples Police located a suspicious vehicle parked at Ortons. Police spoke to an occupant of the vehicle and recognized an individual the officer believed had a warrant. Police confirmed the warrant and arrested the subject.
