Police reports

Recent reports from the Motley Police Department (MPD) and the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) included the following:

Jan. 11 - The MPD assisted in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle which resulted in the arrest of Grant Elmer Stokes, 47. According to the report, MPD Chief Ron Smith heard a broadcast that a gold colored Jeep Liberty had just been stolen from the Staples Express store. Chief Smith located the vehicle traveling east on Hwy 10. As it was turning east onto State Hwy 210, Chief Smith activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated at high rate of speed to elude police. After a lengthy pursuit, the driver, identified as Stokes, was eventually caught. According to the MCSO, the vehicle eventually went into the ditch on Emerald Rd. in Motley. The driver bailed on foot and was pursued by Deputy Jordan Geise who later arrested Stokes and transported him to jail.

Jan. 11 - MCSO Deputy Al Yoder responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at BRICKS Travel Plaza in Motley. The owner of the vehicle, Richard Pride, told officers that he had stopped to get a cup of coffee, leaving his vehicle running and the keys in the ignition. When he returned, his vehicle was gone. He stated he had a loaded 45 Cal Ruger in the center console and three other long rifles in the back seat. Chief Smith arrived and took down information about the guns that were stolen. The value of the missing items is $12,500. According to the report, employees at Four Legged Lodge in Motley said they had witnessed the stolen vehicle traveling west on Hwy 10 around the time of the theft.

Jan. 10 - The MPD assisted Minnesota State Patrol with a one-vehicle rollover at Hwy 10 No. and Aztec Rd. in Motley.

Jan. 5 - The MPD assisted state patrol with a one-vehicle accident on the Hwy 210 bridge in Motley.

Jan. 10 - The MCSO received a call from John Schmitz, who reported that someone had burglarized his fish house located on Lake Alexander south of Haystack Island. No damage to the fish house, but Schmitz is missing a buddy heater, a 20 lb. propane cylinder, propane lantern, tackle box and a radio, a total value of $300.

Jan. 9 - The MCSO assisted at the scene of a two-vehicle crash along Hwy 10 near Cushing.

Jan. 8 - The MCSO responded to a call regarding two trailers on East Jade Trail in Cushing with no plates or markings. Deputy Mitch Tavares located one of the trailers and attempted to make contact with the homeowner next to the trailer but was unable to do so.

Jan. 5 - The MCSO assisted a man whose van went into the ditch on Hwy 10 in Cushing. The man warmed up in the squad vehicle until the tow truck arrived and pulled his van out of the ditch.
