Motley police, MCSO reports

Recent reports from the Motley Police Department (MPD) and the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) included the following:

Aug. 12 - The MPD responded to the scene of a one-vehicle accident near Hwy 10 and Curtis St. in Motley. According to the report, a vehicle struck a sign pole in the median and drove away. Caller stated the vehicle was a white passenger car. Law enforcement spoke with the owner of a hair salon in that area, who said that a female who had been in for an appointment earlier that day had not been feeling well. Later, authorities responded to a medical call at the registered owner’s residence, who was having medical complications. She admitted hitting the sign and stated that she didn’t know what to do. She was transported to the hospital.

Aug. 11 - The MPD assisted the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office in a search for a suspicious person that had attempted to gain entrance into a residence on Hwy 10. The subject, Sean Curtis, 46, was located walking northbound on Hwy 10, Motley. He was arrested after being found in possession of hypodermic needles, a glass pipe and methamphetamine.

Aug. 15 - The MCSO received a call from a man in Cushing who stated that someone had stolen some items from his boat that was parked at a boat lift on Lake Alexander. 

Aug. 15 - The MCSO received a call from Timothy Leyh with Leaf River Ag Service who reported a stolen 1,000 gallon propane tank at a residence on the 38000 block of Hwy 10 in Motley. Homeowner stated that he bought the house in September, 2015 and had never used the tank as he hooked up to natural gas.  Homeowner said he assumed that the company had picked it up since he was not using it, and so thought nothing of it. 

Aug. 15 - The MCSO received a call from a resident on the 6000 block of Azalea Rd. in Motley who stated that someone left a package at the end of his driveway. He ignored it and went fishing; and when he returned home the package had been placed on his doorsteps. He opened it and found a baby pacifier. He believes his neighbors placed it there. Two days earlier, the MCSO had received a call from the same person regarding his neighbor who was riding his four wheeler on his own property. Caller stated that he began recording the scene with his phone to document the noise made from the four-wheeler. The officer stated there has been a long history of complaints between both parties involving the sheriff’s office and the DNR. 

Aug. 14 - The MCSO received a complaint of a dog that was barking non-stop at a residence on 330th St. and Dogwood in Motley. The responding officer located the dog and found that its cable was tangled in a log. Officer freed the dog and the barking stopped.

Aug. 11 - The MCSO responded to a call regarding an unknown vehicle that was parked in a driveway on the 30000 block of 80th Ave. in Cushing. According to the caller, earlier that day a man got out of the vehicle looking confused and was  unable to speak clearly.  He then got back in his vehicle and attempted to leave, but got stuck. The responding officer found the person sitting in the driver’s seat. He was slumped over and appeared to be sleeping. The officer knocked on the window several times, asking the person to roll the window down. The subject looked at the officer and shrugged. The officer proceeded to open the driver’s door and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage. The subject, who was identified as Randy James Heltemes, 51, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Subject was unable to complete the Standardized Field Sobriety Test and later gave a PBT reading of 0.252. Heltemes was arrested fro third degree Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to the MCSO Jail.

Aug. 31 - The MPD responded to a report of juveniles playing on the railroad tracks at Spruce Rd. and Hwy 10 in Motley. Chief Ron Smith drove to the location and located six juveniles there, the oldest being 12 years old. Smith took them to their homes in Motley and informed the parents of his findings.
