‘Meet the Pillager School Board candidates’

The public is invited to a ‘Meet the Pillager School Board Candidates’ panel discussion on Monday, Oct. 24, 6:30 - 8 p.m., in the Pillager School Media Center.

Five candidates are vying for three open positions on the school board. The incumbents include Shawn Hunstad, Scott Mudgett and Chad Koel. Two new candidates are Brian Grimsley and Dave Hietala.

Retired Pillager school teacher Dave Vieths will serve as facilitator for the evening.

During the panel discussion, each candidate will have up to two minutes to tell the audience about themselves and why they think they will be a good school board member for the Pillager School District.

Following these introductions, the facilitator will ask a series of six questions, with each candidate given the opportunity to respond after each. 

The questions include:

o What opportunities will you take advantage of to listen to community members in order to represent them as a Pillager School Board member?

o What do you think is the community’s top priority for the Pillager School District? Is it open enrollment, school finances, how to manage the growth in student population, technology integration, the potential need for building expansion, or have you heard other topics from community members?

o How can the Pillager School District “increase opportunities and the performance of extra-curricular, fine arts and community education programs” set as a priority in the recent District Strategic Plan?

o How can the Pillager School District best prepare Pillager students for college and career readiness?

o What qualities should administration look for in hiring teachers and staff?

o What is your vision for the future of the Pillager School District and how do you plan to make that a reality as a Pillager School Board member?

If time allows, the audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates.
