Eva Reither
Eva Barbara (Lugert) Reither, of Staples, passed away November 17, 2023, at the age of 105-1/2 years-old.
Eva requested no service be held and will be laid to rest in the Bennettville Cemetery.
Eva weighed three pounds when she was born to Carl and Gertrude Lugert on a farm in Mantador, North Dakota. Her mother placed her in a shoebox lined with cotton and put it in the oven to keep warm (there were no incubators back then). Later in life her husband said, “I knew you were only half baked.”
Eva held numerous jobs in her lifetime. She spoke kindly of her cute uniform and years as an elevator operator for a large company in Duluth.
She lived in many states but always returned to Minnesota. She could be known as being a one-woman city beautification icon as she bought, renovated and restored many homes around Staples.
She was a fiesty lady always willing to help anyone. She was a good businesswoman. Her passing will leave a hole in the heart of all those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, James Lugert and one son, Roy Gustafson, Jr.
Thank you for the care from the Hospice Team at her home and recently at the Lakewood Health System Care Center. She loved you all.
“A beautiful sunrise on the morning Eva passed away.
Red sky in the morning -
Sailor’s warning
Lord - Eva’s coming home.”
Arrangements were by the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
