‘A Night of Theatre’ has variety, humor, surprises
A seducer with an unusual technique to win married women.
Two old women sharing their fears, their secrets and their final plans.
Improvisational theatre where characters act on suggestions from the audience; where anything can happen and usually does.
These are the ingredients for Lamplighter Community Theatre’s winter production “ A Night of Theatre” to be presented at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 9, 10, 17 and 18, and at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 12, at the Landmark Inn, 631 3rd Ave. NE, Staples.
The opening act is “Save Me a Place at Forest Lawn” by Lorees Yerby. Two old friends meet for lunch at a cafeteria and face the uncertain interval of life still remaining. Theirs is a resignation touched with wisdom and humor. Surprising revelations illustrate the depth of their friendship.
Dawn Timbs is Clara and Brenda Halvorson is Gertrude. Amy Hunter is the director.
Improv, a short segment of improvisational theatre and sketch comedy will follow the intermission. Participating actors will be different for each performance, but all will have worked with Justin Edin to develop techniques. Edin has three years of improvisation performance background as well as other theater experiences.
The final segment of the evening will be one short act from Neil Simon’s comedy “ The Good Doctor,” which is based on short stories by Anton Chekov.
In “The Seduction” the seducer tells the audience how he will win the lovely young wife of his friend. In fact, he brags to the audience about how successful he is as a seducer, especially of married women. However, the ending leaves the audience wondering who was really in charge of the situation.
Nate Mathews plays the seducer with Michael Rohr and Kathryn Edwards as the married couple. Jim Vollegraaf is the narrator and Pam Collins is the director.
