Gym remodeling moves volleyball to Motley gym
The Cardinal Volleyball players are in action, even though they don’t have a home gym ready. Although the Staples Motley gym is still being remodeled the girls are playing where they can, which means rescheduling games to be played away or playing at the Motley Staples Middle School.
Last Thursday night the Cards traveled to Bertha- Hewitt to face the Bears. Bertha won the match in the first three games, 25-5, 25-9 and 25-8. Leading the Cardinal effort was senior Theresa Odden, who had 12 digs and one kill.
Coach Kyra Quast said they are looking forward to the upcoming season with a lot of new faces and fresh talent.
“We will be led by three returning letter winners, seniors Seanay Miner and Autumn Murray and Sophomore Kelly Pearson,” Quast said.
The rest of the team is relatively young, “We are excited about this season and look forward to great improvement as our young talent grows,” she continued.
Because of the construction in the gym the first four home games needed to be changed, the first against Bertha was moved to the B-H gym and the next three will be played at the Motley school.
“It’s been challenging to find a place for 35 kids to practice each day, but we’re making it,” said Quast. They are hoping to return to a completed court on Sept. 2,1 for their game against Park Rapids.
Helping Quast coach is Sadie Bendson, who is in her second year as the junior varsity coach, “Her talent and energy are a real asset to the entire program,” said Quast.
Ashley Hull will be
coaching C-Squad and “brings fresh energy and
enthusiasm to the program as well as the tradition of having played volleyball for Bertha-Hewitt,” Quast added.
