Great weather for Railroad Days Dash

Jonathan Miller of Sebeka won the Railroad Days 5K Dash Saturday with a time of 17:50. In addition to first place, Miller won a Blizzard from Dairy Queen for beating the time of the race director Nick Schultz. The race is a fund raiser for Kinship of Todd and Wadena Counties. (Staples World photo by Kelley Kossan) The Second Annual Railroad Days Dash was held last Saturday morning. DQ Dilly bars, free massages from LHS, timing from Raceberry Jam, T-shirts and music, along with a great race course drew over 100 participants for this years event.

Nick Shultz, the race director commented, “The weather was perfect for this charity event with temperatures in the upper 60’s and abundant sunshine.”

Winning the event, and setting a new course record was Jonathan Miller, 17, Sebeka, with a time of 17:50. Coming in first for the women was Staci Schultz, with a time of 21:51.

(Staples World photo by Kelley Kossan) For the first time a free Junior Dash was held, with nearly 40 kids under 12 racing around the block to cheers, high fives and balloons at the chute. The Staples Motley High School Cross Country team ran along with the kids, cheering them on.

Schultz said the event was an all-around success and added “Thank you to the many volunteers, sponsors and participants for making this a safe and fun event again in 2010. We were able to raise over $2,000 for Kinship of Todd- Wadena Counties.”

Railroad stakes were given to the top three finishers in each division:

Mens 20 and under: 1. Jonathan Miller, 17:50.2; 2. Josiah Fuhrman, 19:49.4; 3. Jacob Zetah, 20:13.9

Womens 20 and under: 1. Kaytlin Roth, 23:55.4; 2. Jill Maine, 26:09.01; 3. Katie Zetah, 26:19.9

Mens 21-30: 1. Shannon Webster, 18:32.5; 2. Dan Huebsch, 19:57.8; 3.Travis Wilhelmi, 22:26.5

Womens 21-30: 1. Dana Hasselberg, 25:51.4; 2. Courtney Justin, 26:20.8; 3. Shawn Duerr, 26:27.9

Mens 31-40: 1. Darren Larson, 20:37.1; 2. Jerrod Busker, 22:12.4; 3. Richard Mettler, 22:52.0

Womens 31-40: 1. Staci Schultz, 21:51.6; 2. Carrie Beachy, 24:20.3; 3. Maryann Burrows, 25:10.1

Mens 41-50: 1. Wade Johnson, 21:19.7; 2. Joe Zetah, 24:39.0 ; 3. Joel Rengel, 25:29.7

Womens 41-50: 1. Karen Zetah, 29: 18.2; 2. Sandy Opheim, 32:19.8; 3. Michelle Bourbeau, 32:56.0
