2010 Baker 70’s hockey team
Ben Baker, 81, a member of the 2010 Baker 70’s Hockey Team, sent this photo of his team made up of members 70-years-old or older (Baker is in the back row, last one on the right). This year’s team took home the silver medal after defeating Montreal, 7-1 and Can Am 3-0. They then fell to the Edmonton team, 5-1. “The Edmonton team was little too fast for us,” said Baker, a 1947
graduate of Staples High School where
he played on the high school team from 1945 through 1947. “The Edmonton’s
oldest player was 74 and ours was 89. Our team had about six players in the 80-year-old range,” said Baker, “so next year we’re hoping they will include a 70’s and over division.”
Snoopy’s Senior World Hockey Tournament was held in July in Santa Rosa, California. Team members are from all over the United States. Baker is from Portland, Oregon where Baker Bearing Company, Inc. is located.
In 2009 the Baker 70’s Hockey Team earned the Gold Medal, however Baker himself was unable to play because of two broken ribs suffered in a collision with a 250-pounder in June ‘09.
Baker’s younger brother, Dave, was able to attend the Staples High School All-School reunion Aug. 28, a member of the Class of 1956. (Submitted photo)
