The “Ride the Dream” Car Show went international this year.
Ulf and Annilee Gustfasson from Tranemo, Sweden, were visiting Rose and Stan Edin, Staples, during the Still Cruisin’ Car Club’s annual show this past weekend.
Ulf is the owner and operator of Torstarpsbilverstade, an automobile service company in Tranemo. He is also an avid collector of antique Buick autos.
Lee Jenkins, president of the Staples Motley Area Chamber of Commerce, had met Ulf on a previous visit to Staples. Jenkins took the opportunity of this visit to invite Ulf to choose the winner of the Chamber’s trophy.
“Ulf spent the better part of three hours looking at all the cars in the Still Cruisin’ Car Club’s show,” Jenkins said.
He chose for the Chamber’s trophy a 1960 Plymouth Fury owned by Trevor and Maria Yoho, Brainerd.
“Ulf thought it was a very nice car, especially the presentation of the matching boat that went with it,” Jenkins said. “We presented the Chamber trophy and then we had to leave, not knowing until two hours later that the same car had won the People’s Choice grand prize.”
“Ulf obviously knows hs cars,” Jenkins added.
Ulf has restored and owns eight Buicks: a 1927 closed, a 1935 closed, a 1936 Roadmaster convertible, a 1933 four door closed, a 1937 four door closed, a 1937 Roadmaster convertible, a 1938 four door closed and a 1939 four door closed.
He also has resored and owns two antique Volvos: a 1947 PV and a 1958 PV. For a friend he restored a 1913 Renault six cylinder convertible.
