Car show results
Roger Kinnunen of Hawley, showed off his 1972 Gran Torino Sport on Saturday at the “Ride the Dream” Car Show in Staples. Kinnunen ordered this vehicle 38 years ago from Wadena Ford and has kept it in its original, unrestored condition since. He likes to compare it to the Gran Torino in the Clint Eastwood movie, because, he says, they didn’t “get it quite right.” (Staples World photo by Kelley Kossan)
A gorgeous day, last Saturday saw the 15th Annual Ride the Dream Car Show show results
at Staples Elementary. Approximately 2,600 people showed up to enjoy the wide variety of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles, along with music and food. Somewhere around 550 registered cars were on display. A Classic DJ was playing and there was a wide range of different food vendors. The Dyno Jet, a new feature this year, was available to any car show participant who wanted to test the horsepower of their vehicle.
Winner of the NAPA motor was Joshua Simek of Pine River, while Don Kingston won the transmission. Other prizes included floor jacks, a sander and Big Block. Ten winners received Grand Casino certificates and six went home with passes to the Lodge Water Park. New this year was the People’s Choice award, determined by popular vote from the spectators. This award went to Trevor Yoho with
his 1960 Plymouth Fury.
