Recording artist Gary Timbs has been performing Southern-gospel and country music since he was a young boy growing up in East Tennessee. He grew up in a musical family and as a child sang with his family band on a weekly gospel radio show in Knoxville, hosted by Archie Campbell. Dolly Parton was a regular on the show.
A former lead singer with the legendary Hovie Lister and the Statesmen Quartet, Timbs has been nominated for both Dove and Grammy awards. He has been a member of various gospel and country groups including the Statesmen Quartet, the Prophets Quartet, the Blue Ridge Quartet and the Senator’s Quartet.
He was the piano player for Country Hall of Famer Sonny James. While with Sonny James, he appeared on television’s Hee Haw, a Bob Hope Special and The Midnight Special.
Many local residents know of Timbs through his performances with his wife Dawn Schimpp Timbs, and other gospel groups. His performance at Music in the Park this time will feature Timbs in a solo appearance with his wonderful “Southern-fried” piano playing in an evening of keyboard magic.
The Music in the Park Series is funded by the Staples Host Lions Club. The Series is organized by the Staples Motley Area Arts Council with the assistance of the Staples Motley Public Schools and the City of Staples.
