Evening’s crowns and awards

Opening number Participants in the Staples Motley Pageant performed “Hoedown, Throwdown Dance” on the Staples Centennial Auditorium stage Saturday, July 31. The opening dance was choreographed by the 17 Miss Staples Motley Pageant contestants. After about a three year absence the pageant was brought back by a core of volunteers with sponsorship provided by the Staples Motley Area Chamber, the communities, area businesses and other supporters. The pageant exemplifi ed “Today’s Girls Becoming Tomorrow’s Leaders” and had a patriotic theme. There were nine participants for LIttle Miss (ages five-nine); five for Miss Teen (ages 10-14); and four for Miss Staples Motley (ages 15-19). The girls participated in the dance; presented patriotic wear; formal wear and answered an on-stage question. Melony Butler, Mrs. Minnesota International, gave the welcome and was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s show. The National Anthem was sung by Alyssa Johnson accompanied by Elizabeth Juergens. Lights and sound were provided by Hallie Olsen. (Staples World photo by Janice Winter)
