Old water lines will be removed in Motley’s streets project

An additional $6,580 has been added to the cost of the Beaulieu Street Area Project in Motley, the result of the city council’s decision to remove the old water lines in that area and replace them with new ones.

This price will not affect the assessments, however, as the money will be taken from the city’s water fund.

The decision was made at an Emergency Meeting July 28, called for the purpose of considering a water main proposal made by JR Ferche of Rice, the company contracted to work on the project.

Their proposal? To remove the old watermain and install temporary lines until the new ones can be installed.

The 15-minute meeting was led by Acting Mayor Rob Sampson.

Discussion centered on the advantages and disadvantages of leaving or removing the old watermain.

The council eventually decided to completely remove the old watermain line rather than work around it.
