Staples police have variety of calls
Staples police in the past week reported receiving several complaints about other motorists, along with an assortment of other calls. Among them were the following:
An officer traveling southbound on 255th Avenue about 2:40 p.m. Monday, met northbound vehicle traveling faster than posted speed limit. Radar confirmed vehicle speed at 71 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. The driver stated that she wasn’t paying attention. She was cited for speed 65/55.
A driver was observed making a left turn from 245th onto Thunder Road without stopping at stop sign. The driver had no drivers license in possession, no proof of insurance, and suspended license.
On July 24, a Staples offi- cer received a driving complaint on a red Chevy truck at the intersection of 5th Street NE and Highway 10. The vehicle was reported to have left the area traveling westbound on Highway 10. The vehicle was not located.
An officer responded to a report of power lines down somewhere on Dakota Ave SE on July 24 around 2:58 p.m. A tree was observed laying on a power line between 221 and 217 Dakota Ave SE The tree was being removed by a tree removal company.
Around 4 p.m. on Friday, July 23, police responded to the intersection of 4th Street NE and 3rd Ave. NE for a report of a two vehicle motor vehicle crash.
A Staples man was arrested on a warrant on July 21. Nathan Kist, who lives on the 300 block of Wisconsin Ave SE, was arrested on an active Todd County warrant and transported to the Todd County Detention Center.
On Wednesday, July 21, Pamela Anne Hyatt reported an assault between two males at a group home on Sixth Street NE. Police report the incident is under investigation.
The Staples Police Department received a driving complaint July 20. The caller stated the suspect vehicle had been driving erratically since west of Verndale, speeding up and slowing and not allowing the complainant to pass when they were next to each other. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, identified as Gerald Hunter Kurth, was issued a citation for careless driving and no proof of insurance.
