Todd deputy makes marijuana arrest east of Staples

The Todd County Sheriff’s Department reported a Todd County deputy at about 11:45 p.m. on June 21, stopped a vehicle on Highway 10 just east of Staples for an equipment violation.

Deputy John Decock detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed about seven ounces of marijuana.

The driver of the vehicle, Nicholas Wayne Praska,was arrested and transported to the Todd County Detention Center on charges including felony possession.

Someone broke out a windshield on a backhoe parked at a Burlington Northern Railroad construction site at the Long Prairie River north of Philbrook, according to a Todd County sheriff’s report. The incident happened the night of June 11 and was reported June 14.

The driver, Harvey Engelmeier of Fergus Falls, was uninjured in an accident June 23 on Highway 210 west of Staples. According to a sheriff’s report, Engelmeier lost control of his 2008 Cadillac STS while eastbound on 210, just east of County Road 11. His car crossed a field approach, sideswiped numerous large trees and rolled once. His vehicle was a total loss but he was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Paul Uhlenkamp, rural Clarissa, reported a car deer accident on County Road 24 on June 25. His vehicle had moderate damage to the front.

Two vehicles collided June 24 on Todd County Road 14 at the intersection with County Road 5. Neither Jason Foote nor Renate Motl sustained any serious injuries. Both vehicles had moderate damage.

Todd County deputies and the Browerville Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover June 28 on County Road 14 and 275th Avenue. Karen Larson, driver of the vehicle, was extricated from the vehicle by the fire department. Larson, who was wearing her seatbelt, received minor injuries and was transported to the Long Prairie Hospital for treatment. Her vehicle, a 1998 Ford pickup, was a total loss.

A car-motorcycle accident was reported about 5:30 p.m. on June 22 in Bruce Township. A Honda dirt bike being operated by a juvenile male came across Flicker Road in front of a Chevrolet S-10 Blazer being driven by Thomas Reiter, Jr., rural Swanville. He swerved to avoid hitting the motorcycle but hit the bike and knocked the rider off. The youngster was taken to the Long Prairie Hospital and later transferred to St. Cloud by ambulance. Reiter, who ended up rolling his Blazer and the boat and trailer he was towing, was not injured.
