Staples Motley American Legion was 2-3 after action last week against Nisswa and Cass Lake.

SM lost to Nisswa 8-2 on Tuesday, June 22. Jordan Riewer was the losing pitcher, going all seven innings and giving up 14 hits and eight runs.

The Staples Motley Legion team traveled to Bemidji June 28 to play Cass Lake/Leech Lake at Bemidji State University’s field. They took a 7-2 victory to enjoy the ride home.

Gunner Johnson was the winning pitcher, going six innings and striking out 16 batters, giving up just two runs. Jordan Riewer pitched the last inning and got three strikeouts.

Gunner Johnson was the heavy hitter, going 4-4, with a triple, double and two runs scored. Trevor Ness was 3-4, with a home run, double and 2 runs scored, along with three RBI’s. Riewer was 2-3 and Blake Petrich was 2-4.
