Volunteer coordinators are making a big push for volunteers for Saturday on what is being called Work on Wadena or WOW.

A professional volunteer organizer can be reached at 800-543-7709 from any phone or at 211 from any land line. Pre-registration is requested and groups larger than 15 should preregister by calling 211.

Mid-Central Federal Savings and Loan in Staples is collecting monetary donations for the Disaster Relief Effort in Wadena. Checks and cash can be dropped off during regular business hours.

The Initiative Foundation and West Central Initiative will match the first $12,500 in online donations made at GiveMN.org.

The Staples Motley Area Chamber will be accepting other donations on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-11 a.m. at the chamber office which is located in downtown Staples at 136 Fourth St. NE, next to Rainbow Realty. Items needed include:

Work gloves, brooms, rakes, shovels, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, bug spray, laundry detergent, tarps.

Also needed but please bag separately-clothing, towels and bedding.

Donations will be taken to Wadena weekly.
