Ashley Lisson sixth in 100, Jaelin Beachy sets school record

(Photo for the Staples World by Bill Johnson) Six Cardinal girl s competed in six different events at the 2010 State High School League Class AA track and field meet at Hamline University June 11 and 12.

The girls placed in the top ten in three events.

Senior Ashley Lisson ran in both the 100 and the 200 meter dashes. She also anchored the girls 4x100m relay team. In the 100 meter preliminaries,

Lisson came within .03 seconds of breaking the

school record, which had been set by her. This time qualified her for the finals the next day, where she ran a 12.76 dash, which placed her in sixth place. The winning time was 12. 43 seconds.

In the 200 meter preliminary race on Friday, Lisson ran 26.24 seconds, a time just shy of qualifying for Saturday’s finals.

Jaelin Beachy had a great race during the prelims of the 100m hurdles. Beachy ran the hurdles in the 15.43 seconds, a new Staples Motley school record. And she is only an eighth grader.

In the finals the next day she ran 16.04 which put her in her seventh. Jaelin also competed in the 300 meter hurdles, but failed to qualify for the finals.

The 4x100m relay team of MiKayla Wing, Emma Koskiniemi, Maggie O’Keefe and Ashley Lisson took ninth place in the state, with a time of 51.54. the winning time was 49.01 seconds.

Caitlin Peterson had a great season, her first out for track, qualifying for the state meet in discus, where she came within four feet of her own personal best, and placed 12th.

Lisson is one of three senior members of the girls track team who graduated this spring. Along with Kaitlin Roth and Katlynn Ulring, they will be leaving some holes to be filled next year.
