Domestic dispute leads to charges

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office reported a possible standoff incident Monday, June 14 ended without incident.

At about 8:10 p.m., the sheriff’s dispatch received a call regarding a domestic dispute in progress. The county dispatch center was advised that the suspect, Mark Wonders, 43, of Aldrich, had taken off into the woods with a firearm.

Deputies arrived on the scene and set up a perimeter. While waiting for assistance from other agencies, Wonders surrendered and was arrested without incident. Wonders admitted to having a firearm but no ammunition.

Wonders was transported to the Wadena County Jail where he was being held for domestic assault. The incident is still under investigation by the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office and additional charges may come in the future.

The Verndale Police Department, Todd County Sheriff’s Office and Bertha Police Department assisted on the scene.
