Three Cardinal boys at state track meet
Brian Huber qualified in two events . He will be competing at state in both the high jump and long jumps. Huber took first in the high jump at Section 6AA, and second in the long jump. His distances have him on the Staples Motley track honor roll as among the ten best efforts in both events.
Headed to State for a second time is senior Jason Johnson in the discus. He took second with a throw if 151’5”, to earn the right to compete at the 2010 State Meet. He’s also on the SMHS Honor Roll.
The Cardinals will also be represented in the triple jump as well by senior Brandon Larson, who took second place at the section meet.
As a team, the boys took third place in the Section 6AA meet, and had many runners setting personal bests. Coach Ryan Beachy remarked that this was one of the best section results in quite a while.
Five Cards recorded personal best’s last Thursday. Senior Josh Freese set a personal record in the 4x200, “Josh did very well in his leg of the 4x200m relay as he finishes out his high school track career,” said Coach Beachy.
Leighton Griffith also finished out his career with a personal best in the 4x400m relay (Josh Freese, Brandon Sterriker and Rob
Odden), which narrowly
missed qualifying by just .15 of a second. Also setting
a personal best in that race was Sterriker. Lee Parker set a personal record in the high jump, which also put him on the honor roll.
Johnson, Huber and Larson, all competing in the field events, will be competing on Friday, June 11, at Hamline in the state Class A meet.
