Five golfers going to state as individuals

Three Cardinal boys and two girls will be playing next week in the Class AA state golf tournament.
Nick Forsberg, who fo llowed up his firstr ound 65 in the Section 6AA meet with a second day 76, will be making his third state high school golf tournament appearance.
Making their first entry at state this year will be teammates Zach Israelson and Michael Strain.
The Staples Motley Cardinals were leading the Section 6 AA tournament after the first day but St. Cloud Cathedral rallied with a 298 to win the Section 6 AA team title June 3 at the Territory.

The Cardinals finished second with a two-day 608 - five shots behind Cathedral. SM was led by comedalist Nick Forsberg, who followed up his firstround 65 with a 76 to tie Cathedral’s Tyler McMorrow at 141.
Israelson shot a two-day 152 to tie for fourth. He shot rounds of 78 and 74.
Strain needed a one-hole playoff to qualify for his first state tournament. The sophomore shot rounds of 79-78 to tie for seventh with four other players at 157. Strain won the playoff with a bogey. Tanner Roberts just missed the playoff with his 11th place 158. Trent Hagenson finished 26th and Mitch Hagenson tied for 34th.
The Cardinal girls finished in fourth place but Kelly Hagenson and Emily israelson both qualified to advance.
Hagenson finished in
third place with a 172, while Israelson shot back -to-back round s of 88 to finish in sixth place.
