The Staples Motley girls made a great showing at the Section the Section 6AA track meet on Thurs- day, June 3, with the girls earn- ing their first place champio n s h i p finish.
Senior Ashley Lisson, who is making her second appearance at state, is going to be competing in three events. She took first in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and she will also be going as part of the first place Cardinals 4x100 meter relay team that also includes Mi- Kayla Wing, Emma Koskineimi and Maggie O’Keefe.
The Cardinal girls took the 8AA Section title, ahead of second place Sauk Centre, 77 points to 66 for the Mainstreeters.
Six girls will be competing at the state meet this Friday and Saturday on the Hamline University track and field. They will be in six different events.
According to Coach Ryan Beachy this was one of the best section results for both boys and girls in a long time.
Eighth grader Jaelin Beachy set personal bests in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, qualifying her for state in both events. Surprising people was sophomore Caitlin Peterson, who was out for her first season of track this year.
“In the last four meets, Caitlin improved her discus throw from 56 feet to 106 feet, which gave her second place at sections and an automatic entry for state competition,” said Coach Beachy.
Just missing the trip to state was Senior Kaytlin Roth, who had a great season but unfortunately missed in both the pole vault and the high jump.
Also very close to qualifying was the 4x2 relay team of Wing, Koskiniemi, Logan Peterson and Jaelin Beachy, they were only a tenth of a second behind qualifying time. On the Honor Roll for track were both Kaytlin Roth and Katlynn Ulring in the pole vault event and Peterson in the discus.
