Quilts for soldiers

Charlie and Kathy Crews, Staples, mailed nine boxes of supplies to American troops in Afghanistan recently. The boxes (all packed by Charlie) contained five handmade quilts made by the Piecemaker’s Quilt Club in Staples (Kathy is a member) and 40 pillows. The Crews (pictured above) used their wagon to transport the boxes from their home on 5th Street NE to the Staples Post Office. Pictured below, postal worker Vernel Anderson weighed each box prior to mailing, while Charlie addressed each one and listed all contents. Each box costs approximately $12.50 to mail. They will be sent to Major Bart Thomas, a Critical Care Air Transport Nurse. (Staples World photos by Dawn Timbs)
